SINCE 2020

The SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine is a key flagship event of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. To implement President Xi Jinping's proposal at the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of SCO in Bishkek in June 2019, the SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine has been held annually since 2020, with five sessions to date.

The inaugural SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine was held on July 30, 2020, themed “Leveraging the Unique Advantages of Traditional Medicine, Uniting to Combat the COVID-19 Pandemic”, with a main venue in Beijing, a sub-venue in Jiangxi, and additional venues in SCO member states. The 2022 forum, held in Tashkent, was themed “Integration of Traditional (Folk) Medicine with Modern Healthcare Systems”.

The 2021, 2023, and 2024 forums were held in Jiangxi. The 2021 forum opened in Nanchang City and Ganjiang New Area, Jiangxi. Shen Yueyue, Vice Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee and President of the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission of the SCO, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. The forum's theme was “Inheritance, Innovation, Mutual Learning, and Sharing”.

The 2023 SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine, co-hosted by the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission of the SCO, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the People's Government of the Jiangxi Province, was held from November 29 to December 1, 2023, in Nanchang and Ganjiang New Area, Jiangxi, themed “Inheritance, Innovation, Unity, and Collaboration to Promote the High-Quality Development of the Traditional Medicine Industry”.

The 2024 SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine opened on June 27, 2024, in Jiangxi's Ganjiang New Area, themed “Inheritance, Innovation, Integration, and Development”, co-hosted by the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission of the SCO and the People's Government of the Jiangxi Province, with approximately 600 domestic and international guests attending. The forum focused on global cooperation in traditional medicine, releasing the Nanchang Consensus of the SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine and organizing multiple sub-forums, investment matchmaking sessions, and field visits to promote TCM industry-academia-research collaboration and international exchange. Yu Yanhong, Director of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Ye Jianchun, Governor of Jiangxi, attended and delivered speeches, emphasizing the importance of deepening traditional medicine cooperation among member states to build a global health community.
