Recently, the China National Center for Biotechnology Development held a meeting to manage key R&D projects in biotechnology and population health and launch new 2024 projects. Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine's project, led by Professor Zhong Lingyun, titled “Research and Application of Fresh-Cut Processing Technology and Quality Impact Demonstration for Chinese Medicinal Materials Based on the 'Three-Timing, Three-Step, Three-Movement' Innovation System”, and Associate Professor Wang Xuecheng's sub-project, “Key Technologies and Equipment Development for Green and Intelligent Extraction and Concentration Units for Chinese Medicine with High Efficiency and Low Consumption”, were officially approved, with total funding of RMB 27.2742 million, including RMB 12.2742 million in national grants.
The project “Research and Application of Fresh-Cut Processing Technology and Quality Impact Demonstration for Chinese Medicinal Materials Based on the 'Three-Timing, Three-Step, Three-Movement' Innovation System” is jointly undertaken by our university and 10 partners, including Chengdu University of TCM, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Jinan University, China Resources Sanjiu Medical & Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Gansu Guangzhou Baiyunshan TCM Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Jiangzhong TCM Decoction Pieces Co., Ltd., Jiuxin TCM Group Co., Ltd., and Sichuan Neautus TCM Decoction Pieces Co., Ltd. Focusing on automating fresh-cut processing of Chinese medicinal materials, it addresses scientific uncertainties and technical bottlenecks regarding the impact on herb quality. Centered on key elements like “artificial intelligence support, scientific interpretation, technical standardization, integrated equipment development, and quality standard formulation”, the project aims to achieve four goals: “clarify principles, refine techniques, enable intelligent equipment, and establish standards”. It provides robust support for promoting and demonstrating automated fresh-cut processing, driving the TCM industry toward high-quality, modern development and injecting strong momentum into its modernization.
The sub-project “Key Technologies and Equipment Development for Green and Intelligent Extraction and Concentration Units for Chinese Medicine with High Efficiency and Low Consumption” is jointly undertaken by our university and Jiangxi Hebaikanghua Pharmaceutical Equipment Co., Ltd. Addressing specific issues in the extraction and concentration processes, it explores multi-objective optimization technologies for “efficiency-energy consumption”, builds an optimized design space for extraction and concentration processes, develops efficient and energy-saving equipment, ensures consistent and stable quality of TCM intermediates, and enhances enterprises’ green, digital, and intelligent development, continuously promoting TCM industry modernization.
In recent years, the university has focused on the “Four Orientations”, conducting organized scientific research aligned with its “Double First-Class” construction goals. It has strengthened its capacity to undertake major national strategic tasks, continuously enhancing its overall innovation efficiency and contributing “Jiangxi TCM” strength to the high-quality development of TCM.
