From June 1 to 6, the 15th Plenary Meeting of the ISO/TC 249 was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This meeting was hosted by the Dutch national standardization body NEN, with over 150 representatives from China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Canada, Saudi Arabia, India, Mongolia, as well as the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and ISO/TC 215. Professor Feng Yulin, Director of the National Engineering Research Center at our university, Associate Professor Liang Jian from the Chinese Medicinal Resources and Ethnic Medicine Research Center, and Associate Professor Yang Jurong from the Humanities College were invited to represent our university at this meeting.

At the WG1, WG2, and WG5 working group meetings, the delegation reported and exchanged on new proposals, ongoing, and review projects led and co-led by our university, including Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, Alisma, Aurantii Fructus, Peucedanum, TCM efficacy terms, requirements for TCM decoction piece prescriptions, basic requirements for decoction of TCM decoction pieces, and standards for dispensing TCM decoction pieces. The projects received support and recognition from experts and will soon enter stages such as NP (new project proposal) voting, CD (committee draft) consultation, and DTS (draft technical specification) voting.

During the meeting, our university’s delegation also conducted in-depth exchanges with experts from other countries, sharing the latest results and experiences in TCM research, laying a good foundation for further promoting TCM standardization work.

It is reported that since its establishment, ISO/TC 249 has been committed to promoting international standardization work in the field of traditional medicine, providing scientific basis and technical support for global TCM research, production, and application. Our university established the Jiangxi TCM Standards Research Center in October 2024. This participation further highlights our university’s involvement in TCM international standardization work. Our university will continue to adhere to the philosophy of “inheritance and innovation, serving the globe,” actively participate in international standardization work, and contribute wisdom and strength to TCM going global.
