Luling is the ancient name for present-day Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, mainly covering two districts, one city, and eleven counties in Ji'an today. Luling is located in central Jiangxi Province, in the middle reaches of the Ganjiang River basin. As early as over 5,000 years ago, ancestors lived on the Luling land. In 221 BC, the Qin Dynasty established Luling County under Jiujiang Commandery; during the Western Han, it was under Yuzhang Commandery; at the end of Eastern Han, Luling Commandery was set up, and in early Sui, Luling Commandery was abolished to establish Ji Prefecture. Later, it underwent changes in establishment and abolition, with varying jurisdictions. In Tang, renamed Ji Prefecture; in Song, restored as Luling Commandery; in Yuan, established Ji'an Circuit, meaning "auspicious peace", the origin of today's Ji'an. In early Ming, changed to Ji'an Prefecture, governing 9 counties. In the 8th year of Qianlong (1743), Lianhua Subprefecture was added, governing 9 counties and 1 subprefecture. In 2000, Ji'an Prefecture was abolished to establish Ji'an City, governing "two districts, nine counties, one city", namely Jizhou District, Qingyuan District, Ji'an County, Jishui, Xiajiang, Xingan, Yongfeng, Taihe, Suichuan, Wan'an, Anfu, Yongxin, and Jinggangshan City.
